After an 18-month absence, Anne-Catherine Tanguay successfully returned to competition on Thursday in Arizona.
In September 2019, the now 30-year-old Quebecer put her career on hiatus before the stork passed in July last summer.
In an interview with the Journal in December, she announced her plans for a return to the game with the professionals at the end of spring 2021.
With her partner Jean-Hubert Trahan and little Livia, she was able to train in Florida in February. She therefore decided to anticipate her first appearance on the fairways and the greens. Thus, she is competing in the first tournament of the season on the Symetra Tour, the lobby of the LPGA, this week in Mesa, Arizona.
In the first round of the Carlisle Classic on Thursday, Tanguay brought in a card of 70 (-2), good for a tie at 19e rank at the time of this writing in the late evening. With the three hour time difference, several golfers were still on the course.
“I’m really happy with this first round. I kept my game plan. I didn’t want to be too aggressive, because the ground is very firm, ”commented Tanguay.
“It’s so nice to feel that rush of racing adrenaline again,” she added. I missed those chills. Let’s say we enjoyed the moment and the walk on the course. ”
For this return, the golfer was flanked by her partner and faithful accomplice who carried her bag, Jean-Hubert Trahan. They also experienced their new reality with Livia. During Mom and Dad’s working day, the little one stayed with a trusted babysitter well known to the couple. After the interview with the Journal, Tanguay was just getting ready to find her impatiently.
However, parents will not always be able to count on babysitters during the next tournaments.
One step at a time
Until May, she will play on the Symetra circuit to polish her game in anticipation of her first appearance on the LPGA. She will take this opportunity by building her confidence. No question of emphasizing the scores.
“I don’t want to be too hard on myself with high expectations. I have to give myself time, because I resumed training less than two months ago. I want to play freely and be patient. My game is not 100%, but physically, I feel good, explained the one who has treated her injuries since fall 2019.
“I like the competition. I’m so competitive at heart, I know I’m going to put myself back together. ”
