Why the Tangerhütte city council has again spoken out against expanding the wind farm at Mahlwinkel.
Tangerhütte l The north extension of the Mahlwinkel wind farm, against whose negative resolution Mayor Andreas Brohm appealed at the end of 2020, has now been rejected again in the Tangerhütte city council – again by roll call and with exactly the same voting result as in December. There were 14 yes and eight no votes.
In doing so, the council deliberately foregoes financial participation in the electricity generated by the new systems. After the decision in December, an amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act promised financial participation in the income from electricity generation. The investor recently spoke of up to 1.8 million euros – calculated over 20 years – i.e. 90,000 euros per year for the three plants on the Tangerhütte district.
Fundamental question about the wind farm
However, the north expansion of the wind farm also deals with the fundamental question of whether construction should go beyond the (and well-used) wind energy suitable areas identified in regional development plans. Mayor Andreas Brohm (independent) now pleaded for approval of the expansion against the background of the expected income.
“The justification with the money is very thin. If it’s just because of the money, then we could also apply for a nuclear waste disposal facility, ”said Michael Nagler (WG Zukunft).
Areas for wind energy
Rita Platte compared the municipal participation according to the new EEG law with “bribes” and said: “There are already priority areas for wind energy and there is construction going on!” Daniel Wegener (WG Zukunft) was annoyed that the issue was at all due to the mayor’s contradiction came back on the agenda.
“The mayor also has to accept things that the city council decides,” he said. Mayor Andreas Brohm justified his objection with a financial disadvantage for the unitary community. “Now you wave a couple of bills and the first city councilors tip over? Despite the wind turbines that are already in place at Lüderitz, we have no money and even if the EEG law brings money, we could not build a palace of culture, ”said Daniel Wegener.
And he also referred to another resolution of the Tangerhütte city council: It was only in October 2020 that the council had spoken out in favor of not allowing any wind turbines under 2000 meters to the next residential development. The now planned should be between 1000 and 1250 meters away from the nearest houses.
Pro for wind farm project
In addition to Marcus Graubner (CDU), who said: “There is money on it!”, Sven Wegener (Die Linke) also supported the project. He had pleaded for the project manager of the wind farm project, Frank Buchholz, to have his say in the council again. However, this application was rejected by a majority. “I was against this proposal at the time, too, but it’s different now. The community is damp and we can acquire funds here, ”said Sven Wegener.
And he added that he could not remember any citizen who had spoken out against this project in the council. “I wonder whether we represent the interests of the people who would be affected.” In the local council in Birkholz, two council members voted in favor of the wind farm expansion, two abstained. In the local council in Tangerhütte there were five supporters and three who were against. The city council’s committees had not approved the project.
