In tandem, blind and sighted people visit the country of Thionville

Pedaling on a tandem is a challenge of synchronization and trust in the other. Especially if one is sighted and the other teammate is blind. 40 atypical pairs crisscrossed the Thionville country for a week from June 22 to 29, 2023. They stopped in Thionville on June 26, for an exchange full of noise and sensation.

“I love to hear the exclamations of wonder when we visit places. The “It’s beautiful!” warm my heart. Odile Hochard is organizing the week of June 22 to 29 with her association DTH (Défi tandem handisport), a tandem bike ride in the heart of the Thionville region. 40 members of the association responded to the call to pedal together, a sighted person and a blind person, on the less traveled roads in the area. “We eat a sandwich in Thionville at noon and we leave by the banks of the Moselle to Remerschen, where we sleep”, exclaims the disabled athlete.

Before taking a break to eat at the Espace Saint-Nicolas in Thionville, the participants stopped in Garche to admire the storks. “The seers describe the scenes to us and we discuss. Above all, these are moments of sharing. “Some take full eyes and others full ears. “We went for a walk in Luxembourg, we visited the Hackenberg fort in Veckring, we are going to the castle of Malbrouck on June 28 and we will surely go for a walk near the loops of the Saar”, details Odile Hochard, specifying that ‘she doesn’t have any aches despite all those kilometers on her bike. Cyclists come from all over France. They discover these Moselle landscapes. “We have people from Le Havre, Grenoble or even Cahors… And all these little people get along very well”, specifies Odile Hochard. A journey under the sign of solidarity and benevolence.
