Tamron announced on the 22nd that its president and CEO, Shiro Ajisaka, who was under investigation for allegedly misappropriating funds for private purposes, will resign. He accepted his resignation, and at a board meeting held on the same day, he was replaced by current vice president Shogo Sakuraba.
In July, the company received a whistleblower report that Ajisaka took a third-party woman along on a business trip and diverted expenses for personal use, and was conducting an investigation to confirm the facts. As a result of the investigation, it was discovered that for at least the past five years, Ms. Ajisaka had recorded expenses at restaurants that the woman was involved with multiple times a month as expenses.
Tamron dismissed managing director Hiroshi Otsuka, who was responsible for managing expenses, on suspicion of involvement. A special investigative committee consisting of outside experts and outside directors will be established to investigate the facts and identify the causes.
The impact of this matter on earnings is not clear at this time.
