That there are more lenses to choose from from manufacturers other than the camera manufacturer itself is nothing new. But the fact that there is a relatively bright telephoto zoom lens from someone other than Fujifilm – Fujifilm X – is great news. In a double sense.
The Tamron 150-500mm f5-6.7 Di III VC VXD, is a cheaper alternative to Fuji’s XF 150-600mm, only with a slightly shorter focal length and better brightness.
Tamron’s variant fits all Fujifilm X cameras and is a compact (210mm) and usable alternative to the XF 150-600mm f5.6-8 R LM OIS WR, which we recently tested on Fujifilm X-H2S .
The Tamron Zoom features a zoom lock, integrated Arca-Swiss tripod mount with quick release and Tamron’s VXD linear focus motor. The zoom ring can be locked by sliding the zoom ring in and out and features Tamron’s three VC settings for Image Stabilizer, Standard, Frame Priority.
The optical construction contains 25 lenses in 16 groups, including one XLD (extra low dispersion), five LD (low dispersion) and two hybrid aspherical elements for improved light control and chromatic aberration correction. The lens also has the BBAR-G2 coating which reduces ghosting and reflections and a closure limit of 60cm on 150mm and 180cm on 500mm.
The Tamron lens goes on sale in October for NOK 16,190.
