Tamro Latvija’s owner, the PHOENIX group, has acquired the shares of the wholesale and retail pharmaceutical company McKesson Europe, thereby securing the position of the largest wholesale and retail pharmaceutical company in Europe.
The transaction closed on October 31, 2022 after having received the authorization from the competition authorities of the participating countries.
Under the July 2021 purchase agreement between McKesson and PHOENIX, the agreement includes McKesson’s companies in Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Slovenia, as well as the European headquarters, a financial services center in Lithuania, the company Recucare GmbH and a minority stake in the Brocacef Groep joint venture in the Netherlands.
With this acquisition, the PHOENIX group enters new healthcare markets in Belgium, Ireland, Portugal and Slovenia, while expanding its current activities in France and Italy. After the acquisition, the group is now represented in 29 countries, has more than 45,000 employees, 224 companies operating in the wholesale and pre-wholesale pharmaceutical sector, as well as more than 3,200 group-owned pharmacies and 17,000 partner pharmacies.
