Tampa Bay Rays Clinch Playoff Spot, but Lose to Baltimore in Crucial Series

The Tampa Bay Rays clinched a playoff spot thanks to the Rangers’ 9-2 loss to the Guardians. But about 35 minutes after that game ended, Harold Ramírez’s team gave up a lead in the ninth inning and finally lost to Baltimore 5-4 in 11 innings. In this way, the two American League East rivals split this crucial four-game series.

The Rays are one of three teams to have made the postseason every year since 2019, along with the Braves and Dodgers, and the AL West-leading Astros are likely to join that group. They are the eighth club in the Wild Card era (since 1995) to make the playoffs five years in a row.

They still have their sights set on a fifth AL East title, believing that avoiding a best-of-three Wild Card Series would present them with their best path to trying to win the World Series in franchise history.

Part of the classification, those from Florida owe to Harold Ramírez from Cartagena. Batting much of the season as designated hitter, he entered the qualifying game with a .303 average, with 110 hits in 363 at-bats, 11 home runs, 62 RBIs and 50 runs scored.
