Chennai: Heavy rain continues in southern districts of Tamil Nadu. Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Thenkashi, Kanyakumari and Ramanathapuram districts received heavy rainfall. Educational institutions in four districts have been declared closed due to inundation, including in low-lying areas. Holiday for educational institutions in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi and Thenkashi districts.
Steps are in progress to shift the people in the flooded low-lying areas to safer places. Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi districts received heavy rains which started in the morning and continued till evening. The government medical college in Tirunelveli, the old bus stand and many houses in the city were flooded. Mani Muthar and Tamarabharani rivers are overflowing. Tirunelveli district has been alerted due to opening of Papanasham Dam.
Relief camps were opened in many schools in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. Heavy rain is expected to continue till Tuesday morning.
