Tami Kayea Sworn in as First Female Fire Chief in North Texas

SUNNYVALE ∙ Tami Kayea of ​​the City of Sunnyvale has been sworn in as the first female fire chief in North Texas. Tami Kayeya, who has served as Deputy Chief since 2018, has 27 years of service with Dallas Fire-Rescue. Tami Kayeya holds a Master’s Degree in Management and Leadership from Tarleton State University and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. Also holds paramedic and master firefighter certification.

“I was originally a high school teacher and taught English to sophomores. I worked summers with the firefighters some off-duty hours. They were the ones who told me to join the fire department. My dad never suggested I join the fire department. But once I told him I wanted to join the fire department, he was really excited. I like carpentry and football” – said Tami

Tami is a fourth generation family member in the fire service. Tami’s family consists of her husband, two sons and a daughter.
