Tamara refused help for months, but she no longer lives in her car

Tamara from Oss, who lived for months in a car at the Spoorlaan in Oss, was taken to hospital by ambulance on Monday evening. Her car and the rubbish she had collected in it were removed by the municipality.

“She was examined extensively, then she was allowed to leave the hospital,” BrabantWonen and the municipality of Oss said in a joint statement.

Since Tamara ended up in a heated neighbor dispute and a conflict with the housing association, she has been living in her car with dog Pebbles since last August. She did not want to go to the homeless shelter, the Verdihuis in Oss, because Pebbles was not allowed to come along.

But she went there anyway. The authorities were upset with the situation surrounding the woman, because she initially did not accept the help offered. “She was and will be offered solutions. She can accept them. Until then, she can temporarily go to the Verdihuis,” the authorities said on Wednesday.

Neighborhood help
This has brought an end to her bivouac on the Spoorlaan in Oss. She spent months there in her car. After stories in the media, Tamara was offered plenty of help from people in the area. “I got everything. A jug, blankets, gloves and food,” she summed up earlier.

“A lot of people stop for a chat or bring things. They ask what they can do for me and then come back later. Food, hot water or a power bank. Even kibbles have been brought for Pebbles.”

Rheumatoid arthritis
The conditions in which Tamara lived were appalling. She has rheumatism and said she had a lot of pain in her hips, knees, ankles and legs. “I’m in a lot of pain. I can barely move because of the cold and because I don’t have any medicines. My car doesn’t work, so I don’t have transport,” she said about it.

Tamara herself was not available for comment on Wednesday.
