In the year that celebrates 25 years of one of the most iconic toys of past decades, we witnessed a reinvention of the product. The mythical Tamagotchi is back, but now more “intelligent” than the original version.
If, like me, you grew up in the 1990s and beyond, chances are you had a Tamagotchi. A small gadget that included a virtual pet and the goal is to prevent it from dying. This philosophy holds true with Tamagotchi Smart.
Tamagotchi is back now embedded in a kind of smartwatch
Adapted to the new times, Tamagotchi is now back in a slightly different format. Instead of that characteristic oval look, we now have a watch shape, designed to go with you wherever you go.
The format it assumes now is not innocent, because it will also show hours and has a pedometer. Taking advantage of this new “home”, Bandai also included touch controls and voice commands.
Tamagotchi Smart will let you wake up the virtual pet with your voice. However, there will not be a specific command for this purpose, which is a good decision since the main audience for this product will be children.
Each Tamagotchi Smart unit will include a different character, similar to what happened with the original product. Each purchase will be a different experience and an opportunity to take better care of the creature.
TamaSma cards were also introduced, which can be coupled to the Tamagotchi Smart. These will allow you to add new content and new items with a direct influence on the virtual pet’s life.
Finally, it is important to mention that the Tamagotchi Smart will be sold in Japan from November, for the equivalent of around €50. For the time being, there is still no information on possible global availability.
