The legendary virtual animal Tamagotchi is back with a new device launched by Bandai in Japan, the Tamagotchi Smart which this time adopts a smartwatch design with a wrist-worn screen and microphone.
This year Tamagotchi marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of this first virtual companion in 1996, and the Bandai-owned brand is celebrating its new release, the Tamagotchi Smart.
The new device has a design similar to a “smartwatch”, and is worn on the wrist with a strap. Equipped with an LCD screen and a microphone where users can pat the pet’s head or call each other.
Tamagotchi’s ‘wearable’ devices are sold with another accessory sold separately, the Tama smart card, through which users can download their pets and cosmetic items to one of these devices and insert them into another device via a physical port. Not compatible with previous versions.
Bandai also reports on its Japanese website that the new Tamagotchi Smart has a battery life of up to 30 hours, and that each device can only be used to raise one child at a time.
Tamagotchi Smart users can choose from ten different character types, as well as two color options in the robot design, between coral pink and light blue. The device will be launched in the Japanese market in November 2021.
In April, the company brought back this interactive game with Tamagotchi Pix, which includes new functions, integrating for the first time a camera, so that children can take pictures, but also cook and explore the world with their virtual pets, and make new friends. with whom to play and exchange gifts. .
