Reading time: 2 minutes
Go Ahead Eagles lost the season opener. In the Adelaarshorst they lost 0-2 on Sunday afternoon to a very effective Fortuna Sittard.
The opening quarter was the best this edition of Go Ahead Eagles – Fortuna had to offer. With clear-cut chances for Tengstedt, Adekanye and Amofa, the home team came close to the opening goal. But no goals were scored. Fortuna had two chances after mistakes in the home team’s build-up. However, Danny Buijs’ team also failed to score.

Tough duel
Then a tough duel developed in which hardly anything happened and it continued until half time.
Better intentions
In the second half Go Ahead Eagles seemed to have better attacking intentions but these were nipped in the bud by the creative Halilovic. The Croatian scored the opening goal, completely against the pattern of the match. After the 0-1 of the visitors the home team desperately sought the attack but did not see themselves becoming dangerous anymore.

What is realistic?
The 0-2, about fifteen minutes before the end, proved to be the final decision. Completely unmarked, French striker Aiko headed the ball past debuting goalkeeper Plogmann.
Thus, Go Ahead Eagles starts the season with a 0-2 defeat. Most supporters had imagined it very differently. The only question is whether a much higher expectation is realistic at this moment.
