Andriy Yermak, director of the Ukrainian President’s Office, said on Monday that the talks on the Ukrainian war that took place in Saudi Arabia at the weekend dealt a “major blow” to Russia, and that the participants agreed to hold another meeting of political advisers within 6 weeks.
More than 40 countries, including China, India, the United States and European countries except Russia, took part in the talks, which are seen as an attempt by Kiev to build a broader coalition of forces to support its vision of peace.
Yermak said in a press briefing in Kiev: “We will hold another meeting within a month or a month and a half, and we will move towards (holding) a summit.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promoted a plan of 10 principles that Kiev wants to be the basis for peace to end the total war that Russia launched against it in February 2022.
The principles include the withdrawal of all Russian forces from Ukraine and the return of all territory to Kiev’s control.
Yermak stated that all the countries that participated in the talks in Jeddah fully supported Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity, and that the meeting only discussed the peace initiative put forward by Ukraine.
Yermak admitted that the participants did not agree on some points in the Ukrainian peace plan, but he did not give more details.
He said that a summit will not be held at the end of this month for this reason.
He added that these points are still under discussion, and that the participants are working on a draft framework document that will be approved by countries at a future peace summit.
He also said in the briefing that Russia had made efforts to disrupt the talks in Saudi Arabia, but did not provide details of how it did so.
