COACH Indonesian National team, Shin Tae-yong, has just been interviewed by the South Korean media, Sports Chosun. In the interview, Shin Tae-yong expressed his fear of failing to shine with the Indonesian national team.

The South Korean tactician said managing the Indonesian national team was one of the toughest challenges in his career as a football coach. He didn’t talk.

When appointed as the coach of the Indonesian national team in December 2019, Shin Tae-yong was asked by PSSI to handle three teams at once. Call it the Indonesian U-19, U-23 and senior national teams.

Finally, Shin Tae-yong was exhausted from handling so many national teams. Take this year for example.

He has to bring the U-19 Indonesian National Team through a number of tournaments such as the 2022 AFF U-19 Cup and the 2022 U-20 Asian Cup Qualification. Then at the U-23 level, the Garuda Muda squad will participate in the 2021 SEA Games and 2022 Asian Games.

It didn’t stop there, Shin Tae-yong’s agenda with the senior Indonesian national team also entered the solid category. The Indonesian national team is faced with the third round of Qualifying for the 2023 Asian Cup and 2022 AFF Cup.

However, the series of agenda above is not the culmination. Shin Tae-yong is targeted to bring the U-20 Indonesian national team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2023 U-20 World Cup which will be held in Indonesia.

He knew that Indonesian football fans had high expectations for him. Because of that, Shin Tae-yong is afraid of failing to answer the hopes that are floated by the country’s football fans.

“I started coaching in 2009. I experienced a lot of things as a coach. I played in a number of major tournaments such as the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2017 U-202 World Cup and the 2018 World Cup. The series of tournaments above are my momentum to gain as much experience as possible,” said Shin Tae-yong quoting Chosun, Saturday (16/4/ 2022).

“Managing the Indonesian national team is the toughest challenge for me. I’m afraid I can’t do well in the new environment. Even so, I worked hard with the players,” continued the 51-year-old coach.

Nearest tournament run Shin Tae-yong is down at the 2021 SEA Games. The multi-event event will be held in Vietnam from 6-22 May 2022.
