Taliban Wants Islamic Sharia Until Ashraf Ghani Apologizes

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Some news from Afghanistan yesterday still enlivened the international news this Thursday (9/9) morning.

The Taliban’s desire for an Islamic state is still in the news this morning.

Likewise, the news of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani apologizing for being included in international popular news.

Here’s some news summarized in Thursday’s international flash (9/9):

The Taliban’s top leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada, said Afghanistan’s new government would implement Islamic law.

He made sure the state office would uphold that. According to AFP, the Taliban has announced a new government called the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Several offices have been appointed.

“I assure all citizens that government leaders will work hard to implement Islamic rules and sharia in this country,” Hibatullah Akhundzada said, quoting AFP.

2. Know the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Islamic Sharia Government

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is actually not a new name. When the Taliban came to power in 1996-2001, the Taliban also used the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan as the name of the government.

The government’s benchmark this time is the same, namely upholding Islamic law. However, it is not known to what extent the Taliban implement Islamic law in their current government.

When the Taliban first seized power on August 15, the Taliban promised to form a more open and moderate government. They also promised to provide basic rights for women, unlike when they were in power.

Afghanistan’s ousted former president, Ashraf Ghani, has spoken again a day after the Taliban announced an interim government in the country.

In an open letter posted on his Twitter account, Ghani apologized to the Afghan people because his reign ended the same as his predecessor who was also overthrown by the Taliban.

“I owe the Afghans an explanation for leaving Kabul in a hurry last August 15 after the Taliban unexpectedly entered the city (Kabul),” Ghani said on Wednesday (8/9).

“It is with great and deep regret that my period (of leadership) must end in the same manner as the tragedies of my predecessors. I apologize to the Afghan people for not being able to bring about a different ending,” he added.
