A former official in the Taliban praised on Monday the moves Elon Musk has made with Twitter. He is unlikely to do that on Wednesday.
Several figures in the Taliban received the blue mark on their Twitter accounts on Monday.
In the past, Twitter has given this badge to authentic users.
Everything from politicians, influencers, famous people and various companies and firms have had it.
This is to show that the user is official and genuine.
However, now users can buy the brand. In the time after the service was launched, several people created fake users, bought the brand, and posed as, for example, Elon Musk.
It is via payment that officials in the Taliban got it.
Several people have noticed
According to BBC At least two Taliban officials and four supporters in Afghanistan had the blue badges.
Including Hedayatullah Hedayat, the head of the Taliban’s “access to information” department. The same had Abdul Haq Hammad, head of the media guard in the Afghan ministry, according to the BBC.
Muhammed Jalal, a former official in the Taliban, praised Musk on Twitter on Monday – writing that he made the platform “good again”.
Gone
Following a BBC article on the matter, several people on Twitter have reacted.
This has clearly caused someone to take action:
On Wednesday, the mark is gone from the accounts of the Taliban leaders who previously had it.
Much may indicate that Twitter itself has removed them, as you have to pay for the badge at least one month at a time.
Discussions
In the past there have been discussions about the Taliban’s activity on Twitter.
In 2021, the Taliban’s then foremost spokesman, Zabehulah Mujahid, got their account restricted.
This means that a text poster appears when someone tries to access the profile. The poster warns of suspicious activity on the account.
At the same time, the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, was banned from Twitter.
Trump then chose to go to court to get access to Twitter back. Trump returned to Twitter not long after Elon Musk bought the company.
