Taliban Take Over Afghanistan, Citizens Get Death Penalty Letters

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Taliban issued a death sentence for an Afghan citizen. He is accused of helping the United States (US) by providing security to his brother, who works as a translator for Joe Biden’s team.

This is known from a handwritten letter by the group, regarding an order for the man to appear in court. That letter was followed by another, containing a notice of his absence at the scheduled hearing.

“You have been accused of helping America,” the Taliban wrote in the letter CNN International on Tuesday (24/8/2021).

“You are also accused of providing security to your brother, who has become an interpreter.”

While in another typed letter, the Taliban informed the man that he was sentenced to death. This is because he rejected the previous warning and ignored the court summons to appear in court.

“(He is) guilty of in absentia and will be tried, sentenced to death,” the letter read.

“This court decision is final and you have no right to object. You chose this path for yourself and your death will be known.”

It was also reported how another source confirmed this. He also said the Taliban had sent the letters in the last three months to the translator’s brother.

The letters contradict assurances made by Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid at a press conference last week. At the time the Taliban said it would try to project a more moderate image to the world.

“No one will be harmed in Afghanistan. Of course, there is a big difference between us now and 20 years ago,” Mujahid said at the time.

Earlier, a UN internal document report also said Taliban forces were hunting down a number of former government officials and those working with U.S. and NATO forces. Even guerrillas conducted door -to -door searches.

Meanwhile chaos is still happening in Afghanistan. The situation even heated up at Kabul’s international airport, when a gun battle broke out between unknown armed groups and Western troops.

Latest, Taliban warned the US and its allies. Warning it relates to the ‘consequences’ the West will get if they try to stay in Afghanistan beyond the target of 31 August 2021.

The US and the G-7 developed countries are actually in the middle of a compromise to extend their military presence at Kabul airport. This is so that they can continue to evacuate as many people want to escape from Taliban rule.

The Taliban themselves are reluctant to compromise. Through its spokesman, the Taliban confirmed the extension of the presence of US and allied troops is an occupation.

“If the US or UK seeks additional time to resume evacuations, the answer is no.. There will be consequences,” Suhail Shaheen was quoted as saying. AFP from Sky News.

The Taliban have controlled Kabul since last week. Afghan President-elect Ashraf Ghani’s flight abroad made it easy for the Taliban to enter and control the state palace.
