2 explosions suspected Kill bomb self happens outside Kabul Airport, Afghanistan. The death toll has now risen to 20 people.
Reported AFPThe Taliban’s main spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, put the death toll from the suicide bombing at 20 people. Another 52 people were injured.
“13 to 20 people (killed) ,” Mujahid told AFP, Friday (27/8/2021).
The Taliban strongly condemned the suicide bombing. The Taliban said the explosion took place in an area controlled by the US military.
“Strongly condemns the bombing targeting civilians at Kabul airport,” a statement released by Mujahid on Twitter said.
Kabul hospital reported six dead. Then 90 other people were injured.
The Pentagon said several US troops were killed in the blast. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby called the suicide bombing a complex attack.
The US State Department said there were reports of gunfire erupting moments after the suicide bombings. The US asked its citizens to flee from a number of points that are considered dangerous.
“US citizens should avoid traveling to airports and avoid airport gates. Those who are at Abbey Gate, East Gate or North Gate must now leave immediately,” said John Kirby.
US and allied officials have intelligence that the suicide bombers are linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) group in Afghanistan and the Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K). The group is known to be at odds with the Taliban.
