Group Taliban restarting government activities in Kabul, the capital Afghanistan, two days after they took power. In one moderate measure, the Taliban granted amnesty to all government officials and encouraged them to return to work as usual.

As reported AFP, Tuesday (17/8/2021), the Taliban announced a general amnesty for all government officials and called for them to return to work immediately. This call was made at a time when local residents were still on high alert for the Taliban leadership.

“A general amnesty has been established for all… so you should start your routine life with full confidence,” the Taliban group said in a statement Tuesday (17/8) local time.

Tens of thousands of people are trying to leave Afghanistan to escape the hardline Taliban leadership, or fear reprisals for siding with the government it backed for the past two decades United States of America (AS).

Evacuation flights from Kabul airport were still continuing after chaos hit earlier this week, when crowds of people stormed the runway in an attempt to board a plane flying out of Afghanistan. Some people even dare to hang on US military aircraft.

The Taliban was known to lead the pariah regime from 1996 to 2001, and was known for its brutal leadership in which girls could not go to school and people were stoned to death.

US-led coalition forces invaded Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001 attacks, in response to the Taliban’s position of supporting Al-Qaeda. The US-led coalition at that time succeeded in overthrowing the Taliban.
