Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Taliban open job vacancies for the community Afghanistan. However, the reward that society received was wheat, not money.
This policy is carried out to deal with the threat of famine that haunts Afghanistan. The Taliban are targeting these “cashless payments” for unemployed Afghans who are facing starvation in the winter.
“This is an important step to tackle unemployment,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement AFP.
Zabihullah also mentioned that workers have to work hard. Mujahid said that this scheme would be launched in various major cities of Afghanistan. He also said the Taliban would recruit 40,000 people in the country’s capital, Kabul.
Reportedly, the Taliban will distribute 11,600 tonnes of wheat in Kabul, with another 55,000 tonnes distributed in other areas of Afghanistan, such as Herat, Jalalabad, Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif and Pol-i-Khomri.
The plan is for workers to dig aqueducts and snow catchment terraces in winter to combat the country’s drought.
In addition to having to fight the threat of hunger, the Taliban also face threats in the security sector.
Since the Taliban came to power a few months ago, there have been four bombings in Afghanistan, some of which were carried out by ISIS.
Previously, a suicide bombing occurred at Hamid Karzai International Airport, Afghanistan, on August 26 last. At that time, the airport was still surrounded by hundreds of residents who wanted to flee the country.
Not only that, ISIS also claimed the bombing that occurred at the Eid Gah Mosque, Kabul. The explosion that occurred coincided with the implementation of the prayer process for the mother of the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid.
The Taliban also faces the threat of poverty as international aid is cut off, food prices are rising and unemployment in the country is soaring.
