Pansjhir –
Hundreds of troops Taliban started moving towards Afghanistan’s Pansjhir valley. Pansjhir is one part of Afghanistan that has not been controlled by the Taliban.
As reported by AFP, Monday (23/8/2021), hundreds of Taliban troops began moving into the Pansjhir valley, Afghanistan. The location is a hiding place for anti-Taliban opposition forces led by Ahmad Massoud, son of legendary mujahideen commander Ahmad Shah Massoud who was assassinated by Al-Qaeda.
“Hundreds of Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate are heading to Panjshir state to control it, after local state officials refused to hand it over peacefully,” the Taliban group wrote on its Arabic-language Twitter account.
Spokesperson for the anti-Taliban said since the Taliban took control of the country after the lightning attack on the capital Kabul, thousands of people had headed for Panjshir. At that location, Ahmad Massoud, has also tried to muster a force of about 9,000 people to fight the Taliban.
Images taken by AFP during training showed dozens of recruits doing fitness routines, and several armored humvees driving across the valley northeast of Kabul.
Nazary said the group wanted to push for a new system of government, but was ready to go to war if needed.
“Government troops came to Panjshir from several Afghan provinces,” Massoud told Saudi broadcaster Al-Arabiya on Sunday.
“The Taliban will not last long if it continues on this path. We are ready to defend Afghanistan and we warn of bloodshed,” he continued.
