“Women who travel more than 72 kilometers should not be offered a ride if they are not accompanied by close family members,” Ministry of Crime Policy and Prevention spokesman Sadeq Akif told AFP on Sunday (26/12).
The ministry also previously released a regulation banning people from turning on music in their vehicles.
Last week, the ministry also asked Afghan television to stop dramas and operas featuring female stars. They also require television journalists to wear the hijab when reading the news.
Human rights observers immediately criticized the rules applied by the Taliban in Afghanistan.
“This new law also moves further towards making prisoners for women,” Association director for women’s rights, Heather Barr, told AFP.
Barr continued, this rule closes the opportunity for women to move freely, travel to another city, run a business, or escape if they experience violence at home.
