Originally the idea was that the Americans would leave Afghanistan on September 11 after 20 years, but President Biden brought that date forward because the withdrawal of his troops was going well.
Now Biden is backing down because of the delay in the evacuation of foreigners and Afghans fleeing the Taliban rule. He has said that the US military will remain in Afghanistan anyway until the last American is evacuated from the capital Kabul.
“But that’s a red line,” said the Taliban spokesman. “If the deadline is extended, the occupation will be extended for no reason. It will worsen our relationship and lead to mistrust.”

President Biden wants to do everything in his power to leave Afghanistan next week, but he believes that it must be responsible. He doesn’t want to leave Americans in the country. But a later departure is therefore out of the question for the Taliban.
There are currently about 15,000 Americans in Afghanistan. It is mainly soldiers who have to ensure the safety of evacuees at Kabul airport.
