Striking is the appointment of Sarajuddin Haqqani as Minister of the Interior. He is the son of the founder of the Haqqani Network, which had close ties to Osama Bin Laden. The network has been classified as a terrorist organization by the US. “The son is known to be more extremist than the Taliban,” André said.
A son of Mullah Omar, the late founder and former leader of the movement, is the new defense minister. He was previously the leader of the Taliban military branch.
“We already knew that there would be no women in government, but it is also disappointing in terms of other forms of inclusivity,” says André.
