Taliban grip widens, 1,000 Afghan soldiers flee to Tajikistan

ACCEPTANCE – More than 1,000 soldiers Afghanistan has fled to a neighboring country Tajikistan after clashing with the guerrillas Taliban .

This is the third time Afghan soldiers have fled to Tajikistan in the past three days and the fifth case over the past two weeks. In total, nearly 1,600 troops have crossed the border.

“The last group of Afghan forces sought refuge on Monday morning after fighting with the insurgents at night,” said Tajikistan’s National Security Committee.

Violence has increased in Afghanistan and the Taliban have made significant gains, especially in the north of the country in recent weeks. The spike came as the United States (US), Britain and their allies stepped down after 20 years.
