Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Taliban deploying special forces to guard mosques and madrassas after a series of bombs ISIS from Afghanistan once they are in power.
“In the future, we will deploy special security forces to protect mosques and madrasas,” the Kandahar police chief said, according to a Taliban spokesman on Twitter.
Reuters reported that the Taliban released this statement on Saturday (16/10), shortly after ISIS claimed responsibility for the bombing at a Shia mosque that killed 47 people the day before.
Through social networks, ISIS stated that the perpetrators of the attack on the mosque in Kandahar province were Afghan members, namely Anas al-Khurasani and Abu Ali al-Baluchi.
According to ISIS, the two men initially shot dead the security guard guarding the Fatimiya Mosque.
The two then split up. One person detonated a bomb in front of the entrance of the mosque, while the other from inside the building.
The bomb was not the first ISIS detonated in Afghanistan since the Taliban took power in the country in mid-August.
In late August, ISIS-K carried out a suicide bombing at Kabul airport. At that time, the airport was crowded with residents scrambling for evacuation. As a result, the suicide bombing killed 183 people, including 13 US military personnel.
On October 3, ISIS carried out a suicide bombing in front of a mosque in Kabul that killed five people. The bomb exploded as worshipers gathered to pray for the mother of the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, who died.
Last Friday, ISIS again bombed a Shia mosque in Kunduz and claimed at least 46 lives and injured 143 others.
The Taliban themselves claim that they have crushed ISIS cells in Afghanistan. However, the attacks still continued.
These attacks are considered to be able to make the international community question the ability of the Taliban to contain ISIS and ensure security in Afghanistan.
This ability of the Taliban is considered very important amid their efforts to gain international recognition. This recognition is crucial so that the Taliban can overcome the various crises in Afghanistan.
