Taliban condemns US drone strike that killed Islamic State militants

Taliban official spokesman Zabihulla Mujahideen told Reuters that the actions of the US armed forces had been a “clear attack on Afghan territory”.

Reuters reports that Mujahideen has announced that the Taliban plan to take full control of Kabul airport in the coming hours. He added that the group is evaluating officials who will work in the new Afghan government, which will be announced soon.

However, shortly after Reuters released Mujahideen’s statements, a post appeared on his Twitter account: “Reuters interviewed me and distorted my words. I urge the media not to take them seriously.”

Mujahideen’s statement does not state what specific information he is disclosing to Reuters.

On August 28, a chirping sounded near Kabul Airport and tear gas was felt in the air. The United States warns that there is a high risk of further terrorist suicide bombings nearing the end of the civilian evacuation and withdrawal mission.

Eyewitnesses told Reuters that the shots were fired outside the airport by Taliban militants to disperse crowds.

Jauns.lv has already reported that at least 170 people, including 13 US soldiers, were killed, according to some sources, during a terrorist suicide bombing at Kabul airport on Thursday. The local branch of the Islamic State, the Islamic State of Horasan, claimed responsibility for the attack.

In response to the terrorist attack, the US drone killed two high-ranking militants of the Islamic State terrorist group in Afghanistan, one of whom was a “planner”. The blow occurred in Nangarhar province in the east of the country. There are no reports of civilian casualties, the Central Command said in a statement.

The Pentagon says 117,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan

William Taylor, a spokesman for the US Department of Defense, has revealed how many people have been taken out of Afghanistan since the evacuation began.

“We continue to evacuate endangered U.S. and Afghan citizens from Kabul,” he said. Taylor added that on Saturday it was planned to seat 1.4 thousand people on the plane.

“We have the opportunity to transport evacuees on military flights until the last minute,” says Taylor. The US and other Western countries plan to complete the evacuation by August 31.

According to Taylor, more than 117,000 people have been deported from Afghanistan since the start of the operation, most of them civilians.
