Taliban Claims to Have Offered US to Help Investigate 9/11 Terror

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Taliban claims to have offered to help investigate the tragedy of the terror attacks that hit three locations in United States of America on 11 September 2001 then.

At that time, the Taliban was still in power in Afghanistan. The statement was made by a spokesman for the Taliban, Shuhail Shaheen, on Saturday last week.

“I remember that we condemned the incident. (Abdul Salam) Zareef was the ambassador of Afghanistan (to Pakistan at the time) and I was a subordinate of his. We held a press conference and we condemned the incident. We said we would work together to uncover who the perpetrators were. actually what’s behind the scenes,” Shaheen told Geo TV on Saturday (11/9).

Shaheen said that the Taliban had asked the US to resolve the issue through dialogue, not invasion.

Shaheen claimed Al-Qaeda, as the main mastermind of the September 11 terror, did not inform the Taliban regime in Afghanistan about the 9/11 attacks so the government felt “misled”.

So far, the Taliban are known to have had close ties to Al-Qaeda. After the 9/11 attacks, the Taliban also refused to hand over Al-Qaeda and its leader, Osama bin Laden, to the US. The attitude of the Taliban resulted in Washington’s decision to invade Afghanistan.

Reported Sputnik, Shaheen also said the Taliban would not allow Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups to pursue their goals in Afghanistan.

Shortly after reclaiming power in Afghanistan on August 15, the Taliban pledged that they would not allow Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups to launch terror propaganda from Afghanistan.

At that time, the Taliban also stressed that they were no longer in touch with Al-Qaeda.

The Taliban regime which has returned to power in Afghanistan at this time has indeed triggered anxiety from various countries in the world.

Afghanistan under the Taliban regime in 1996-2001 is said to be a haven for terrorist and extremist groups, such as Al-Qaeda.
