Afghan government data shows about 900 trucks cross the border every day, linking Pakistan with Afghanistan, Iran and Central Asian countries.
“The Mujahideen have captured an important border town called Wesh in Kandahar,” Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, said in a statement. Also read: Circulating Taliban Video Execution of 22 Afghan Command Forces
“With this, the important road between (Spin) Boldak and Chaman and the customs of Kandahar has come under the control of the Mujahideen,” he continued, as reported by Reuters on Wednesday (14/7/2021).
Afghan government officials did not immediately confirm the fall of the town, which is in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province, which lies next to the Durand Line border with Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Shafiqullah Attai, chairman of the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Investments said the Taliban in recent weeks had taken control of a number of important trade routes.

“We don’t have exact figures on the volume of trade and transit made from these ports as now with the Taliban, the revenue has started going to the Taliban,” Attai said.
