Taliban Claim Former President Ghani’s Brother Pledged allegiance to the Islamic Empire

ACCEPTANCETaliban claimed Hashmat Ghani, the younger brother of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, had pledged allegiance to the group.

“Hashmat Ghani, brother of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, swore allegiance to the Islamic Imarah in front of Khalil al-Rahman Haqqani (leader of the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani network),” the statement said.

Earlier on Saturday, Afghan broadcaster Shamshad News reported that Haqqani met Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Afghanistan’s former prime minister (PM) and head of the political party Hezb-e-Islami, in Kabul.

A source told Sputnik that the head of the Taliban’s political office, Abdul Ghani Baradar, also arrived in Kabul on Saturday to negotiate the formation of a new Afghan government.

President Ashraf Ghani fled the country after the Taliban seized Afghanistan by entering the capital on August 15.

Ghani who is currently in the UAE stated that he intends to return to Afghanistan in the near future to provide “justice” to all Afghan citizens.
