Nato forces have been evacuating foreigners and Afghans who used to assist alliance forces’ operations and who now fear retaliation from the Taliban.
The Taliban had previously promised to let anyone who wanted to leave the country go to Kabul’s airport.

“Taliban forces have blocked the road to Kabul Airport,” said Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid.

The spokesman added, “From now on, only foreign nationals will be allowed to travel to the airport.”

Kabul airport is the only way out of the country that does not involve crossing Taliban checkpoints.
