The Taliban has recently imposed new restrictions in Afghanistan, including a ban on music and films in Herat city. In another harsh restriction, the Taliban has now prohibited women from attending Eid celebrations in two provinces of Afghanistan. The de-facto authorities have instructed the women of Baghlan and Takhar provinces to not go out in groups during the days of Eid ul-Fitr. These restrictions are due to gender mingling and not following the dress code. The Taliban’s oppressive policies against women are widely condemned, with a ban on higher education beyond the sixth grade, and restrictions on women working for international organizations or in public spaces. Despite the Taliban’s promises of a more moderate approach, the situation for Afghan women remains dire.
