Taliban bans girls from studying; Boys Boycotted World Class | Deshabhimani

Boys protested by boycotting classes against the Taliban ban on university education for girls in Afghanistan. Students warned that the boycott would continue if girls’ classes were not resumed. The campaign is also active on social media with the hashtag ‘lei She lei should learn’ against the ban. Several Kabul University teachers have called on the Taliban to reconsider the decision. It was also reported that many teachers quit their jobs in protest against the decision. On the 20th, the Ministry of Higher Education in Afghanistan ordered the suspension of higher education for girls until further notice.

Meanwhile, the Taliban government canceled the operating licenses of three international non-governmental volunteer organizations with female employees. Last day, the finance minister ordered that women be banned from NGOs working in Afghanistan. NGO licenses in the education, health and childcare sectors were cancelled. The UN has condemned the action of the Taliban. The heads of the voluntary organizations said that without female staff they could not work effectively among women and children.
