Taliban Announces Hasan Akhund to Lead Afghan Government

Taliban announced that Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund was appointed as the main leader of the new government in Afghanistan. Quotes AFP, the Taliban announced it on Tuesday (7/9).

Chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said one of the founders of the Taliban, namely Abdul Ghani Baradar, would also fill a strategic position in the government. He will be the deputy leader in the next government.

So far, the Taliban has not announced the list of cabinet members to be led by Mohammad Hasan Akhund and Abdul Ghani Baradar.

Earlier, Zabihullah said the new Afghan government would represent all existing groups. A number of former military officials under ousted President Ashraf Ghani will also join the new government of the Taliban regime.

Quotes Reuters, the Taliban -led cabinet will contain 25 ministers and 12 members of an advisory council or shura consisting of 12 Muslim scholars. However, so far there has been no further statement from the Taliban on the news.

There were four names that were rumored to be leading the Afghan government, namely Abdul Ghani Mullah Baradar, Haibatullah Akhundzada, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai and Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob.

Of these names, so far only Abdul Ghani Mullah Baradar has been given a strategic position, namely deputy leader of the Afghan government.
