Taliban Announce New Afghan Government, US Concerned

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

United States of America (AS) expressed concern about the names of the members Taliban who served in Afghanistan’s new government.

The names are said to not reflect the Taliban’s promise to form an inclusive government. One of the concerns of the US is that there are no women in the interim cabinet.

“We recorded a list of names that was announced exclusively, consisting of individuals who are members of the Taliban or their close associates and no women,” a foreign ministry spokesman said.

The US understands that the Taliban present the official as an interim cabinet, he continued.

“However, we will judge the Taliban by their actions, not their words,” the spokesman added.

It is known, the Taliban has appointed some of its members to occupy strategic positions in the interim government in Afghanistan.

Mohammad Hassan Akhund was appointed interim prime minister. He was one of the officials sanctioned by the United Nations (UN) during the Taliban rule in 1996-2001.

Then the deputy, accompanying Hassan, was Mullah Abdul Ghani Barradar. He was one of the founders of the Taliban which Pakistan liberated under US pressure. He also had an important role in negotiating the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the interior minister is Sirajuddin Haqqani in the new Afghan government. He joined the organization, which is included in the US version of the terrorist list.

“We have made clear the hope that the Afghan people deserve an inclusive government,” he stressed.

Shortly after occupying the presidential palace on August 15, the Taliban claimed they wanted to form an open and inclusive government.

They, he said, would work with women and officials from the Ashraf Ghani era government. However, many are skeptical of the new Afghan government.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is said to be holding talks on Afghanistan in Qatar, including the issue of the safety of its citizens’ travel to Uncle Sam’s country.

The US State Department continues to call for safe travel for its citizens who wish to leave Afghanistan.

The Taliban, Blinken said, would cooperate on this, as long as residents had travel documents.
