What distinguishes a very good hotelier, a very good hotelier?
Love of the job, architecture and design, enthusiasm for change and new, innovative ideas, joy in team motivation and in the service industry in general.
What do you dislike about your industry?
Often the view and appreciation for employees – a hard-working housekeeper or a hard-working service person should be treated just as appreciatively in my world as a top manager of a company.
What advice do you give young, aspiring hoteliers and hoteliers?
Be passionate in everything you do and never ever give up.
Susanne Petrich
The 39-year-old German from Dresden decided in 2004, after studying business administration, to continue her career in the hotel industry. She successfully completed various positions in the food & beverage sector and as an operations manager. She has been with the Radisson Hotel Group since 2011 and took over the entire operational management of the Radisson Blu Hotel at Zurich Airport as hotel manager in mid-July.
What is so fascinating about your job?
Working with and meeting people from different countries and cultures – we can all learn from each other.
What does an attractive workplace look like for you?
Positive motivation, great team spirit, great product.
How do you inspire employees in your company?
Through appreciative, respectful and motivating interaction with one another. Everyone should be warmly welcome to contribute thoughts and ideas and, if there is a chance of success, be able to implement them. Talent development and promotion are very important.
What shouldn’t be missing when you go on a trip?
My phone, all important information, documents for the trip, camera, hotel room booking systems and much more.
Which would you choose: punk music in a 5-star hotel or waltz in a youth hostel?
In my opinion, both can be exciting in their own way – it depends on the overall concept, and it has to be coherent in itself.
What would you do if you had a year off?
Travel the world. My goal in life is to have seen all the countries on this beautiful earth once. With 73 countries traveled so far, there is still a lot to discover.
What do you do first when you enter a hotel room as a guest?

Stewardess – they could fly anywhere in my world.
Which youthful prank do you never forget?
It’s less of a prank than something from my childhood, early youth, which I can still laugh about with my sister today: My father – a great and extremely intelligent person – said jokingly on a hiking and climbing tour with friends that it was too People who smoke weed.
