Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion of the National Hockey League (NHL) team has taken another step toward completing the team, this time acquiring goaltender Cam Talbot from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Filip Gustavsson, the Senators announced on Tuesday.
Talbott stopped 91.1% of the shots and averaged 2.76 in 49 regular season games for the Wild last season. Despite his solid performance, the Wild acquired Marc-Andre Fleury shortly before the trade deadline. After that, Fleury took over as the starting goaltender, starting five of six games in the playoffs. After the Wild extended Fleury’s contract for two years last week, Talbott’s agent, George Bazos, informed the team’s general manager, Bill Guerin, of his client’s dissatisfaction, according to media reports, but Talbott has not commented publicly on the situation.
The 35-year-old Talbot’s contract with “Senators” is concluded for one year. This will be the goaltender’s sixth team in the NHL. He previously played for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames and Wild. “Kem is experienced and will provide us with more goalkeeping stability next season. He played a big role in helping Minnesota reach the playoffs. The tandem of him and Anton Forsberg sets us up well for next year,” Dorion said in a team press release.
