As of this summer, some of the 30 actions that structure the municipal plan have been put in place. Starting with the creation of “fresh spaces” thanks to the installation of shade houses, pergolas and shade sails in several Toulouse neighborhoods. The town hall has also extended the opening hours of places of freshness, namely gardens, municipal swimming pools and even museums. As part of the “100,000 Trees Plan”, around 39,000 have been planted in Toulouse since 2020.

Shifting gears

A plan which is still at the experimental stage. “We wanted to provide a response to global warming from the summer of 2023 with a significant amount of experimentation. From next year, we will ramp up with more ambitious policies,” explains Clément Riquet, in charge of the “Toulouse + fresh” plan.

In the coming months, the town hall plans to accelerate the revegetation of Toulouse with the planting of new trees this winter and the progress of the work on the Grande Rue Saint-Michel, which should be concluded at the end of the year. year 2024. “Rue Saint-Michel is the perfect example of what we know how to do in terms of greening and quality of life for Toulouse residents. It will be fresher and more pleasant,” explains Clément Riquet.

The de-waterproofing of the floors of several squares and streets in Toulouse, including Place du Parlement, is also planned. “We also want to consult with residents. The coming year will also be an opportunity to carry out the “Ideas for my neighborhood” projects, several of which concern the greening of neighborhoods,” concludes Clément Riquet.

A difference of 5°C under the shades, according to the town hall

The Toulouse town hall reports that the temperature measured under the shade houses is 5°C lower than the initial temperature. “Another important figure is ground temperature. There is a difference of at least 10°C between the ground under the shade houses and the rest of the Toulouse paving stones,” explains Clément Riquet, in charge of the “Toulouse + fresh” plan.
