On October 14, an annular solar eclipse will occur, which can be seen in several states of the country. This astronomical event promises to be one of the most impressive in recent years, so some Mexicans will seek to keep a souvenir of this event, such as a photograph or video.

For this reason, in recent days the question has arisen as to whether or not it is possible to take a photograph of this event with a cell phone, a question that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has already been responsible for resolving. ).

Can I use my cell phone to take photos of the eclipse?

This institution made it clear that you can take photographs and even videos of the annular solar eclipse with a cell phone, however, there are some measures that must be respected in order to capture the images in the best possible way.

According to NASA, you should protect your cell phone camera with some type of solar filter that can withstand the UV rays emitted by the eclipse, since if you don’t, the sensor of your mobile device could be damaged.

It should be noted that currently there are no special filters that adapt to cell phone cameras, however, some special glasses (which must be certified) can be used to protect the smartphone sensor.

It is important that the filter covers the entire camera so that the sun cannot enter anywhere and thus be able to take a good photograph and, in the process, not sacrifice the sensor of your mobile device.

Likewise, it is recommended to adjust some parameters of the smartphone camera such as exposure and enable manual focus to take the best photographs of the annular solar eclipse.
