Taking antibiotics should not be excessive, must be according to a doctor’s prescription

Imran Agus Nurali, Director of Health Promotion and Community Empowerment, Directorate General of Public Health, Ministry of Health said that antibiotics are one type of antimicrobial.

Some other antimicrobials such as antiviral and antifungal.

“Of course, which cases are fungi, don’t treat them with antibiotics. Viruses don’t need antibiotics because they can have self-limiting disease, for example, if the condition is not severe.”

In addition, the danger of resistant bacteria can also arise from the inappropriate use of antibiotics in the fishing industry or livestock. Often, farm animals are given antibiotics as fatteners.

“If the use of antibiotics is too excessive and then eaten by humans, antibiotic resistance can also occur without realizing it,” he said.

Imran said that in using antibiotics wisely, people can follow the 5T guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.

The 5Ts are: not buying antibiotics yourself without a doctor’s prescription, not using them for other than bacterial infections, not keeping antibiotics in stock at home, not giving leftover antibiotics to other people, and asking the pharmacist for antibiotic drug information.
