The currently available vaccines are available from wholesalers and can be ordered through travel vaccine providers, Takeda told RTL Nieuws.
“100 percent protection against dengue is impossible,” said Takeda medical director Mark Broren. “But we know from research that the vaccine prevents dengue fever in 80 percent of cases and 90 percent of hospitalizations.”
Over time, vaccine protection decreases. Broren: “We saw somewhat weak protection after three years, 60 percent against symptoms and 80 percent against hospitalization.”
100 euros per dose
According to Takeda, the vaccine costs around 100 euros per dose, and two injections should be optimally protected, three months apart. If you want to make the most of this summer vacation, you need to get started right away.
The main side effects of this vaccine are pain around the injection site, headache, feeling sick or weak, and infection of the nose or throat.
