Takeda Launches Dengue Fever Vaccine in the Dutch Market for Travelers

Pharmaceutical company Takeda is bringing a dengue, or dengue fever, vaccine to the Dutch market, according to a spokesperson.

This disease does not have to have a serious course, but can sometimes be life threatening. Dengue fever, for example, occurs in Thailand, Indonesia and the Caribbean.

According to the company, the vaccination costs about one hundred euros. Travel lovers can order antidotes against diseases spread by mosquitoes through regular vaccination providers. Valid from 4 years old. The main side effects are pain at the injection site, headache, feeling sick (nausea), weakness and infection of the nose or throat.

The Qdenga Dengue Tetravalent vaccine was approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) late last year.

Non-serious dengue virus infections end after a few days to a week, writes the RIVM health agency. However, a minority of infections develop into serious forms with complications, which can become very serious if left untreated.

Known symptoms of dengue fever are sudden fever, headache and muscle aches. Until recently, you could only protect yourself from dengue fever with protective clothing and insect repellent.

Each year, an estimated 90 million symptomatic dengue virus infections occur worldwide, according to the RIVM, 500,000 of them serious.
