Microsoft’s current console generation offers customers two hardware tiers. The Xbox Series X and its lower-spec sibling, the Series S. The company requires that any games released on the platform be released simultaneously on both consoles and offer most of the same features. Some companies have expressed some frustration about supporting low-powered hardware, but Grand Theft Auto VI publisher Take-Two doesn’t seem to care about this.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick answered a question about whether the Xbox Series S would have trouble running GTA VI in its latest earnings report. Because this is known as a generation-defining release. On this, Zelnick said, “We support the platforms that consumers are on for as long as they’re there, and we find ways to support those platforms even if they have different skill levels. Our labels are really good at that. I’m not too worried about that.”
Microsoft also recently refreshed its Xbox Series However, the performance level remained the same.
“I’ve never worried about where the hardware goes, and I’ve said this many times over the years: First, because I don’t worry about things I have absolutely no control over.” He continued: “And secondly, because I believe in the audience. The audience will show up if you have great attributes, so we have to be on a variety of platforms.”
Zelnick also touched on the PC side during the same call, revealing that Take-Two is seeing “big growth” on the platform.
“I think PC is going to be an increasingly important part of the console business going forward, and it’s not complicated at all for us to support. So the bottom line is we’re selective about the platforms we support. We want our audience to “We make the technology work when we can, as long as it’s big enough to make it worthwhile.”
Despite his praise for the PC platform and its massive audience, Take-Two and Rockstar have yet to announce a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI. This highly anticipated game currently only has Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 as confirmed platforms. Zelnick also confirmed that the game is scheduled for release in fall 2025.
