Tan Yamanouchi & AWGL, a firm founded by architect Adan Yamanochi, recently built a new home in central Tokyo for a budding cartoonist and his companion, two pet owls, following the cartoonist’s requirements to “with the aim of “floating a few inches in daily life”, coupled with imagination and design, she designed a single-family wooden house called “ある标签家の自居” (Japanese manga artist’s house).
Inspired by the work of a cartoonist, the first thing that catches the eye about the house is the surreal slope-shaped anti-seismic wall. The lighting fixture on the door is more reminiscent of the tunnel leading to the exit or the unknown. facade is full of sense of mystery and storytelling.
Assuming the “maximization of the use of long and narrow textures” as a general design aim, since cartoonists tend to work at home, to guarantee the client the possibility of separating public and private functions and obtaining good lighting, the architect not only rearranged the sequence of alternating staggered floors, but also creating a difference in height to achieve the effect of not closing but defining each area, the construction area is only 44.16 square meters, but it is complete.
