Short column: The GGD reports that it will be ready for mass vaccination in the summer. The summer? Winter has yet to come! How many deaths and bankrupt companies are we then?
If, after waiting for 9 months, there is finally a vaccine, it will take more than six months before everyone gets the long-awaited syringe in their upper arm or buttock. It is difficult to prepare now, says the GGD. Because we do not yet know exactly what we will get, when and in what quantities and how many freezers or fridges are needed (arrange it all? It is nothing compared to the billions in damage to the economy). Moreover, we do not yet know how many sports halls we have to rent and we cannot already do that (Why? Who sports there now?)
In Germany, halls, prickly streets and freezers are already busy, and in England people are eager to get involved. Hugo and Mark are waiting to prepare the preparations until they know exactly what kind of vaccines we will receive, when and how many exactly. The GGD reports that it will be ready for mass vaccination in the summer. The summer? Winter has yet to come! How many deaths and bankrupt companies are we then?
I recently got a flu shot myself. My doctor had rented the cathedral of Rotterdam for it to have a little corona space. I hadn’t been to church for a while, but don’t worry, I was out in no time. In through the front door and after a few minutes I was outside again through the side door. In one month, for example, 3 million people in the Netherlands were vaccinated without much problem. That is not the problem. It is not impossible to vaccinate the whole of the Netherlands within a few weeks with a large-scale mobilization.
So what’s really going on? The problem is the availability of the vaccines. The pharmaceutical industries that are all sitting on their oat (freezer) crates like a pig and keep their patents secret. Moreover, they deliver it awkwardly in freezer boxes in which you first have to mix the liquid in a short time and then quickly administer their first of two injections to 1000 people in a cluster. The price is also high. In addition, the major firms with the vaccine candidates leave us in the dark about the exact details. The OMT has to make do with a press release from Pfizer. There is only one patent holder who both supplies his vaccine at cost price and also makes his patent available. AstraZeneca is ready to disclose the secrets of its vaccine to any competitor, country or government. It is also very cheap compared to the other vaccines. I would say a candidate for the Nobel Prize. Unfortunately, it is not the most effective vaccine.
Our government, the European Commission, the United Nations: they should take companies like Pfizer and BioNTech to the International Court of Justice for murder or crime against humanity. How many people still have to die from this pursuit of profit?
In the meantime, our cabinet continues to invent in the Catshuis with how many we can celebrate Christmas later. How they can pump some more millions into the hospitality industry that is slowly moving to the Philistines. Which stores can still close to make Christmas shopping impossible. And argue about who can be vaccinated first or what to do with people who do not want to be vaccinated. (It’s easy to solve, by the way: throw the vaccine refusers out of health insurance and they can afford to pay for the care they overburden.)
One minute to twelve: before the judge with the snatchers!
