We are returning with our French Yorker calendar for this future year 2023 and decided that, as with 2021, it would be participatory.
Thus we will have 13 photos (the cover + 1 photo per month) with 13 different photographers.
And to choose these photos, I propose a small competition.
I’ll explain everything here on this page, and read the whole page carefully before submitting your photos, and especially the fact that you only need photos in landscape mode and not in portrait mode! 😉
Le French Yorker 2023 calendar
Here are the last 3 calendars.
In 2020 and 2022 I offered you a calendar with my photos and in 2021 a calendar with this “participatory” mode.
Here are the covers:
How will the competition go?
The competition will take place in 3 stages:
1) You will send me your photos from the form at the bottom of the page by Sunday November 20th at 11.59pm.
2) Among all the photos I will have received, I will select 8 photos for each month and 8 photos for the cover photo.
So, I’m the one who will do the first sorting through all the photos I’ll have received.
3) On Tuesday, November 22, I’m setting up a voting system on my account’s Instagram Stories @bpvny for 3 days:
– the 1st day, the quarter-finals
– the 2nd day, the semifinals
– on the 3rd day, the finals
Each time, there will be a match between 2 photos. The one who passes will be the one who has obtained the most votes in the last 23 hours.
There will therefore be 13 final stages: one for the cover photo, one for each month of the year.
Do you have to be a professional photographer to enter the contest?
Obviously not. Need just be passionate about New York City and have some nice photos to share. And this, everyone can do it!
How many photos can you send?
I ask you to send a maximum of 3 photos per person otherwise I’m afraid of receiving too many but above all I want you to make your selection of the 3 most beautiful.
Later, if you only have one or two, really really nice ones, then don’t bother choosing 3.
How to choose your photos?
First of all know that there will certainly be a lot of photos, so choose one (or more) really nice photos : well framed, sharp, bright… and why not original to stand out from the others… and also good quality (see next chapter).
Then you will have to choose whether this or that photo will be more likely to compete for the month of January, February, March…
A photo cannot compete for several months.
So if for example you have Central Park in the snow, you will definitely compete for the month of January or February for example. If it’s Halloween, it’s going to be October plus, Autumn plus November, Christmas plus December…
So it’s up to you to suggest your photo in relation to the right month of the year, because obviously I won’t choose a photo of New York under the snow for the month of July! 🙂
Now, if you only see the Empire State Building and the sky in your photo, then he can leave at any time.
But to make things easier for you, here are the themes that I propose to you for each month and you will see that I have left you a few “free” months where you can propose whatever you want.
- Cover : free (but you have to think that the title of the calendar will be in the middle)
- Month of January: Statue of Liberty
- The month of February: snow in Central Park or elsewhere in the city
- The month of March : Brooklyn and/or its bridges
- The month of April: the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt
- The month of May : Street art
- The month of June: the horizon
- The month of July: free
- August : Central Park
- The month of September: free
- The month of October: Halloween or fall
- The month of November:an original photo
- The month of December: Noël
Can you have several of your photos in this calendar?
Do not, I will try to choose one photo per person so that there are 13 people who can earn the right to be in this beautiful future calendar.
What kind of photos to send?
On the one hand, it is necessary that your photo is in “landscape” mode.i.e. horizontal. Since the calendar only has photos in landscape mode, we can’t choose any of them in portrait mode, sorry.
Then, if selected, your photo must be of good quality i.e. in HD. You need to check that the minimum photo size is 3500 x 2480 pixels so that the print is beautiful. But before sending, please feel free to send a lighter size. 😉
How to name your photos?
Name each of your photos with your first and last name and your chosen category.
For example, if your name is Stéphanie Durand and you submit a photo for the month of June, the photo file will be named: stephanie-durand-juin.jpg
It will be much easier for me.
What will the 13 people who have their photo in the calendar win?
They will win 4 prizes each:
– their photos in this calendar printed in 200 copies.
– Of course I will a copy of this calendar which they will receive at home in December.
– I will publish their photo on my social networks.
– and finally I will send them goodies BPVNY et Travel in French with the calendar.
How does it work in terms of photographic rights?
Each winning photographer must complete a rights clearance allowing me to demote the rights to the photo chosen for this 2023 calendar, and only. So I won’t be able to use it for anything else, except of course to highlight it on my social networks, as a winning photo.
How much will this calendar cost?
The calendar will cost €9.90 including tax, plus shipping costs with tracking number: €4.22 for France, €5.56 for the DOM/TOM and €9.20 for abroad (Belgium, Switzerland, USA…)
When will they be on sale and when will you receive them?
It will go on sale from Friday 25 November 2022.
Since we will also order them at the print shop on Friday 25 November, we should receive them by 6 or 7 December at the latest, so you should receive it at home between 7 and 13 December.
And so you will receive it before Christmas! 🙂
How many copies will there be?
We will print the calendar in 200 copies.
So there will be one for each winner, plus one for us in the office as a keepsake, and then 183 copies for sale.
Form to send your photos
Here is the form to use to submit your photos (maximum 3!), and again, remember to rename your photos!
Good luck to all and thanks in advance for your participation.
