Scientists have discovered a link between high cholesterol and Alzheimer’s disease
Controlling cholesterol in middle age will reduce the likelihood of dementia in later years. The head of the London Medical Laboratory, Avinash Narayanan, is confident of this, his words are quoted by the portal News Medical.
“Traditionally, prevention of Alzheimer’s disease began at a later age. It has now become obvious that already at the age of 50 it is necessary to adjust your diet and lifestyle in order to avoid problems in the future,” says the scientist.
Experts from the UK Cardiological Research Institute have found that “bad” cholesterol aggregates protein between neurons, which can ultimately lead to Alzheimer’s disease and then to dementia. Scientists have concluded: there is a direct connection between what we eat and a decline in cognitive abilities.
Not only does excess cholesterol increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, but also high blood glucose levels. British scientists have traced the connection between sugar consumption and the risk of dementia. They came to an interesting conclusion: consuming sugary drinks increases the likelihood of developing cognitive impairment. At the same time, there was no direct connection between the consumption of solid sweet foods and the occurrence of dementia.
Another study also found that drinking soda and chips increases depression and reduces brain size.
