Take advantage and collect unemployment insurance aid in the United States

Much has been said about unemployment insurance in the United States. This is essential help for workers who are going through financial problems and are on the way to looking for another new job. One of the aspects that is controversial about the issue in question is that the so-called “self-employed” or independent workers are not eligible for these payments. However, if you are in this case, you should know that there is a way to access a similar benefit. The process would be executed through the Program Self-Employment Assistance Program (SEAP).

The SEAP allows people who are out of work and meet certain requirements to start their own business. This will happen while they collect Unemployment Insurance benefits. The aforementioned benefit gives states the opportunity to pay a self-employment assistance subsidy (SEA).

This replaces regular unemployment insurance benefits. At the same time, help is provided to unemployed workers as they establish businesses and become self-employed. Cash awards are sent out on a weekly basis, just like unemployment benefits.

Surprisingly, SEAP is not yet available throughout the country, although it is intended to expand next year. To date, Delaware, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon and Washington are the only states that have active self-employment assistance programs.

SEAP Eligibility Requirements

These are the requirements to qualify for the SEAP.

-Be at least 18 years old

-Be eligible to receive, at a minimum, 13 or more additional weeks of Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits

-Enroll in a training program approved by the commissioner.

-Be identified as likely to run out of benefits or be eligible for Commissioner Approved Training (CAT).
