The dazzling light of the Aurora Borealis and the colors seen in the night sky are the result of the interaction between the constantly moving solar wind and the magnetic field near the Earth’s poles.
The Aurora Borealis occurs when positively and negatively charged particles, such as electrons and protons, are released by the sun and enter the Earth’s atmosphere through Earth’s magnetic field.

These particles then interact with the atoms and molecules in the atmosphere, causing the visible glow in the night sky. The color of the aurora depends on the type of gas it interacts with and the altitude of the interaction.
The charged particles that produce auroras come mainly from the solar wind, which is constantly moving around the Earth.
The Aurora Borealis has been known since ancient times, but was not scientifically understood until the 19th century.
Kristian Birkeland, a Norwegian scientist, investigated auroras and concluded that charged particles originate from the sun and enter the atmosphere through the Earth’s poles.

Other researchers, such as Carl Størmer, have also made important contributions to understanding this phenomenon.
The Aurora Borealis occurs because the Earth’s magnetic field attracts charged particles from the solar wind to the Earth’s poles.
When these particles collide with atoms and molecules in the atmosphere, the resulting energy causes the visible light in the night sky.
This phenomenon is more common in October to March, when the nights are longer and Earth’s magnetic field is more active.
